Why Did I Do That?

I happened to be reading an agent’s blog the other day and happened upon a cool website which allows you to plot where in the world you’ve been. So here’s my world map:

And here is my United States map:

I looked at the US map and something seemed very odd. I searched my memory, which isn’t so reliable these days and, yes, I think it’s pretty accurate. So, if you’re Smarter Than A 5th Grader, you might be able to guess the states. Never been to Alaska. Flown over it on my way to China, but never landed there. No to the Dakotas, Nebraska, Delaware and Maryland. But two states struck me as odd. Wyoming and Montana. Why?

My book primarily takes place in Cody, Wyoming and Billings, Montana. I’ve been to 42 of 50 states. So, of all the states that I HAVE been to, why the heck did I choose two of only eight that I haven’t been to for my story? Beats me. I have no hatred for Montana or Wyoming, although if you read A Reason For Dying, you might come to that conclusion. I hear they have a rugged beauty to them.

It took a lot of research to place the story in that setting. My mind can visualize the Tetons, Yellowstone, Old Faithful. I have a mental image of what Cody, Wyoming should look like. I’ve been told I’m not entirely correct.

My second novel takes place in the Northeast. Primarily New Jersey and Philadelphia, although, I’m not sure where I’m going to end it. New York City? I won’t know for probably several weeks. I’m just past the middle of the book and working on a fast-paced second half.
