Rant On The Road To Publication

Filed under: Publication — admin @ 6:52 am

Okay, its Monday morning and somehow, this weekend did not recharge my batteries for the coming work week.  But there were a couple of things that set me off.

First, BLOGS!  Well, not blogs really, but certain people who write blogs.  You see, I follow a number of literary agent and publisher blogs in order to see what I can learn about them to help advance my writing career.  Maybe I should just write better.  Okay, the theme was query letters and receiving form letter rejections.  You see, I’ve built quite a library of rejections for my novel.  I’d love to make it better, but almost all of the agents send form letter rejections, so there’s no way to tell what they want, or why they rejected you.  The agent blogs scoff at writers who question this practice.  They publicly ridicule any writer who thinks they deserve any feedback from an agent and consider it great that they should bother to stuff a rejection form letter into your self-addressed STAMPED envelope and throw it in their out basket.

This weekend, an agent wrote a blog that was horrified at receiving a form letter query from a writer.  Her words, “People, pay the agent or editor some respect and at least attempt to make the query personalized.  I’m not feeling the love here.”

How much love do the authors feel opening all those impersonal form letter rejections that agents toss around like candy?  Answer me that!
